[Familiar shot of Jack being shoved into Beckett's room on the Endeavour.]
Beckett: [gazing out window] Remarkable. The last I saw of that ship, she was on fire. A blackened hull sinking beneath the waves. [meanwhile, Jack rubs his hands together, searches through jars and containers] We had a deal, Jack. I contracted you to deliver cargo on my behalf. You chose to liberate it.
[The camera pauses as Jack starts to open a box, and it pans to the "P" brand on his arm]
Jack: [brief look at it] People aren't cargo, mate.
Beckett: [still hasn't turned around] And you inucrred a heavy debt to raise her up again, didn't you?[Jack noisily opens a jar and peers in it; Beckett turns around] It's not here, Jack.
Jack: [closes lid and turns around] What? What isn't?
Beckett: The heart of Davy Jones. It's safely aboard the Dutchman and so unavailable for use as leverage to satisfy your debt to the good captain.
Jack: [going over to the portrait] By MY reckoning, that account has been settled.
[Jack stares up and down at it and scowls, comparing it to the real deal]
Beckett: By your death? And yet, here you are.
Jack: [picks up cane] Close your eyes and pretend it's all a bad dream. That's how I get by. [poses like Beckett in the painting]
Beckett: Your good deed cost me, Jack.
Jack: [turns back around] And you have spared me any possibilty of ending up as anything other than what I am. [sets cane down on the globe table] And for that, I truly thank you. [picks up a miniature ship and glances at it] Will someone be in soon to draw you a bath? [tosses ship back down]
Beckett: Be so nice if all of us could be on holiday year-round. [Jack peers through the mini-telescope that points at the globe] But someone must ensure that the world turns properly. [turns the globe forcefully, Jack jumps away] People are what they love, Jack. And what they love...[takes a staff and props up the ship Jack dropped] is cargo. They love spices, and linens, and silks, and plantains. [Jack sniffs the air, gazes over the toy soldiers and silver pieces of eight] And as long as it is delivered on time and in sufficient supply, [the camera reveals a peanut, Jack picks it up and eats it] they are content to do nothing more than figures on a ledger. [looks up at Jack]
Jack: [to himself] ...Peanut...
Beckett: You're a clever man, Jack. [Jack lifts his eyes to him] You know I'm right.
Jack: If you're offering me a seat on the Board, I'm not even depraved enough nor drunk enough to accept. [smiles]
Beckett: Or then, perhaps you consider an alternative arrangement. [picks up a tiny glass with the familiar wine stuff from DMC] One that requires absolutely nothing from you [offers glass] but information.
[Jack looks away to gaze at the pieces of eight]
Jack: [picks up glass by its rim] Regarding the Brethren Court, no doubt. [Beckett lifts his glass to drink but Jack grabs it] In exchange for fair compensation... [downs one glass] square my debt with Jones, [downs the other] guarantee my freedom?
Beckett: [pours a new, much bigger glass] Of course. It's just good business.
Jack: [picks up a toy Beckett from a small box] Were I...in a divulgatory mood, what then might I divulge?
Beckett: [whispers] Everything. Where are they meeting? [Jack looks as if he wants to say something, but can't] Who are the Pirate Lords? [Jack pockets the Beckett figurine] What is the purpose of the nine pieces of eight?
Jack: [jerks mouth slightly, then speaks] I think I prefer to maintain my monopoly on those answers. Just good business, y'know?
Beckett: You haven't changed. [about to drink] Enjoy the gallows.
Jack: [grabs glass] I've BEEN. [walks away, Beckett looks sulky (but with some humor), as if thinking, "Oh, for the love of God..."] Once you've taken in the view, there's not much to it. [Beckett faces him] Now, far be it for me to give advice to you: But if I were me, and you were you, we'd each have the same lack of trust on the other. [circling the globe table] Imagine you're me. You being me would propose than rather than you telling me, being you, where the Brethren Court is meeting, you'd lead me there instead. [Beckett has looked away and is uncorking another wine bottle, Jack approaches him] Whereupon, you could serve up to me the Pirate Lords, the nine pieces of eight, and the whole of the Brethren Court on a silver platter. And you being me...I would likely accept such an offer if I were you. [Beckett turns around, staring ahead as if zoned out] Savvy?
Beckett: On a silver platter.
Jack: [downs glass in one gulp] With a frilly linen napkin and a spicy banana on the side.
[Beckett smiles, looking like he's about to burst out laughing. He's about to pour another glass, feels like he's being watched. Jack has no words, simply points to his own glass, as if thinking, "Um...more please?"]
