[He opens the chest, the rest of the EITC soldiers point their rifles at the heart. Just then Governor Swann bursts in. He grabs a bayonet as he hyperventilates, aiming it towards the heart.]
Norrington: GOVERNOR!
[He grabs his wrists, trying to subdue him. They struggle, then Swann finally speaks.]
Swann: [hoarsely and shakily as if he's been crying for a long time] I-It's true...? She's dead...Elizabeth's dead...[sobs on Norrington's arm]
Norrington: [moves his mouth a bit, looks like he's saying "What...?"; to a soldier] Withdraw, Corporal. [the corporal just blinks and stares] LEAVE!!!!!
[The EITC soldiers withdraw their weapons and file out the door. Norrington and Swann are still grabbing each others arms as Davy Jones enters.]
Swann: [faintly] ...Let me go...
Davy Jones: Let him go.
[Norrington instantly pulls his pistol straight at Jones]
Swann: [angrily] STAY BACK!!!! [hoarsely] I will kill you!
Davy Jones: And are you prepared for what comes after? [steps towards them] When I carved that traitorous vessel from my body, I cast upon it a terrible geis-uh. If you stab my heart, yours must take its place. [Swann glances at the beating heart] The crew are not bound to ME-uh. THEY are bound to the Dutchman. And the Dutchman...must have a captain. [slight meaningful look] ...Will ye serve-uh?
Swann: [weakly] ...N-no... [tries to proceed stabbing the heart but to no avail]
Beckett: [off-screen] GOVERNOR! [Mercer appears next to him] Your daughter is still alive.
Swann: [not crying anymore] ...What?
Mercer: I saw her myself, in Singapore.
Swann: [as if this is a joke] Hah...no... [Jones looks at him] You're all liars.
Beckett: [walks over to him] No. Jones is...merely cruel. I am perhaps guilty for the sin of omission. [very quietly] ...For which I apologize.
Norrington: [sideways to Swann] Governor. [he looks at him reluctantly; low] There is still hope. Please. [blinks and nods towards to the bayonet]
[Swann looks away, mistrustful, jerks his hand free from Norrington's grasp. Places the bayonet in his hand. Walks away without a word, but stops between Davy Jones and Beckett.]
Swann: [to Beckett] Our association has ended.
[Davy Jones makes a "LAWL
" look.]Beckett: [has not turned around; to Jones] You're dismissed, Captain.
[Jones' smile fades. Norrington puts away his pistol as he walks off.]
Beckett: Thank you, Admiral.
[Norrington huffs, as if thinking, "Don't mention it." Before he leaves, Beckett holds out his hand. Slaps the key into it. Continues. Beckett pockets it.]
Mercer: He's a sly one, that Jones. Who's going to kill him? If they know they'd be (?)
Beckett: [approaching the chest] I can order Admiral Norrington's silence. He'll obey; it's what he does. [peers inside]
Mercer: And the governor?
Beckett: ...Yes. [as he closes the chest] Well, every man should have a secret he carries with him to his grave.
